will to find a manual for a 1955 not going to be easy, and we know its the front bearings as there not an inter and out on the back, just one pressed on bearing, and there's not caliper or rotor as this car was not offered with anything but 4 wheel drum brakes.
sorry guys just in a bad mood, and if you don't know what your talking about, will ill just leave it at that.....
rickie m
got it for the most part right, and from 1953 to 1964 used the same spindle's for the most part, so to change to the newer type bearings is an easy job, and as rickie m said he used the 64 chevy bearings, the 63 %26amp; 64 chevy was the first years for the newer style of bearings and the 64s are easyer to get.
as rickie m said you may have to back the brakes off a bit to get the drum off and youll need a brake spoon or long flat head screw driver and youll have to lift on the tool you use so that your turning the self a-juster off some to get the drum off, youll have to have the rease pressed in on the old drums, should cost you about $20.oo for both to be done + cost of the bearings and the bearings will come with the new rease's, make sure you pack the bearings with grease, and make sure you replace the seals on the back of the drums as well, and when your putting them back on the car make sure you dont over tighten them, over tighting them down will cause them to burn out and fail.
good luck with this job its an easy one, and make sure you have some rags around as this job will get grease everywhere on you lol.

With a small screwdriver take tap tap the dust cover off the middle of the rotor. Once removed take the cotter pin out and loosen the nut in the middle. The rotor should come off. But slide the rotor part way off and get the outter bearing out and then slide back on and put the Nut back on the spindle. Once you have the nut back on slide the rotor down til it hits the nut and push it back and pull it out hard til it knocks the inner bearing out.How to change the inner and outer wheel bearing on a 1955 chevy?very easy, remove dust cap, then cotter pin, then big nut,try to pull off,if it feels stuck, then back the brakes off a little, then it will come rite off,,,,those wheel bearings, are the round ball bearing type,,,and tend to go out a lot,,,on my 57 which is same setup,,,i used front drums, and inner and outer bearing's from a 64 chev,,cause they have the modern roller type wheel bearing's,and are much easier to work with, and more dependable...
